Tree Mapping at Prince Alfred College

A collaborative project between Prince Alfred College, UniSA Geoscience department and the KTRA culminated in tree-mapping workshops with 2 groups of Year 10 students, during the last two weeks of Term 3.

Dr Stefan Peters, a lecturer in Surveying and GeoScience at UniSA, has worked with KTRA for the last few years, linking us with students for various geoscience projects.

This year, Sam Caruso, a post graduate student, has been working with Ms Danielle Cross, a Yr 10 Geography teacher at PAC and our President Dave Baker to coordinate workshops which introduced students to aspects of Geoscience got them using the tree App to map trees within PAC grounds.

Over two weeks in September the students learnt more about heat maps, canopy cover and why KTRA has a focus on greening, following which they worked in small groups to map the trees in the school grounds.

This was a trial research and community engagement project to map trees in the private realm, building on our work over the last 2 years to map the trees in the public realm.
